1. Introduction
Welcome to Clipr ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how Clipr handles information when you use our mobile application ("the App") available on Google Play. We are deeply committed to protecting your privacy and providing transparent, clear explanations of our data practices.
By downloading, installing, or using Clipr, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Application.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information We Do NOT Collect
Clipr is designed from the ground up as a local, on-device video editing utility. We do not collect, store, transmit, or share:
- Personal identification information (name, email address, phone number, physical address)
- Account credentials, user profiles, or login information
- Precise or approximate location data
- Device identifiers (IMEI, MAC address, Advertising ID, etc.)
- Usage telemetry, behavioral analytics, or event tracking data
- Crash logs or diagnostics sent to external/third-party servers
- Any of your media files (videos, images, audio recordings) from your device
2.2 Data Processed Locally On-Device
To provide its core video editing functionality, Clipr processes media and metadata entirely on your device. This data never leaves your device and is never uploaded to external servers or accessible to third parties:
| Data Type | Purpose | Storage Location |
|---|---|---|
| Video Files | Cutting, trimming, previewing, and merging video clips | On-device only |
| Image Files | Adding intro/opening frames and thumbnail previews | On-device only |
| Audio Files | Adding background audio tracks and audio overlays | On-device only |
| Draft Project Data | Saving unfinished editing sessions locally via Room Database | On-device only |
| Exported Video Files | Saving processed output videos to your device's media gallery/storage | On-device only |
2.3 Network Access
The App requests standard INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE permissions to support platform services and check connectivity. We do not use these permissions to collect personal information or upload your media files.
3. Android Permissions Explained
Clipr requests specific Android permissions strictly to access your chosen media files and save your exported creations:
| Permission | Purpose & Plain-Language Explanation |
|---|---|
READ_MEDIA_VIDEO |
Allows you to select videos from your gallery to cut, trim, or merge on Android 13+. |
READ_MEDIA_AUDIO |
Allows you to select audio tracks to attach as background music on Android 13+. |
READ_MEDIA_IMAGES |
Allows you to select images to include as opening video frames on Android 13+. |
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE |
Enables media selection on devices running Android 12 and below. |
WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE |
Allows saving exported videos to local storage on legacy devices (Android 8 and below). |
INTERNET |
Provides network connectivity support for platform dependencies. |
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE |
Checks network status without gathering personal information. |
WRITE_SETTINGS |
Allows adjusting system playback preferences if required during editing sessions. |
All permissions are used exclusively for their explicit editing functions. You can review or revoke permissions at any time via your device settings.
4. Data Storage & Local Database
4.1 Local Room Database
Clipr uses an encrypted, local Android Room database stored within the App's sandboxed storage directory to manage draft projects. This data includes:
- Project titles and selected tool type (e.g., "Video Cutter", "Video Merger")
- Local file path references to media you selected for editing
- Project timestamps, trim start/end points, and export status flags
This database is completely isolated to your device and is never synchronized to external servers.
4.2 Exported Video Files
When you render and export a finished video, the file is saved directly to your device's standard media storage (Movies/Clipr). We do not have remote access to, nor do we retain copies of, your exported media.
4.3 Android System Backup
The App adheres to Android system backup policies using strict data_extraction_rules and backup_rules. If you have Google Backup enabled on your Android device, operating system metadata may be backed up according to Google's Privacy Policy.
5. Third-Party Libraries and SDKs
Clipr utilizes robust open-source libraries and platform components that perform their operations locally on-device:
| Library / Component | Provider | Function & Privacy Model |
|---|---|---|
| AndroidX & Jetpack Compose | Modern native UI rendering; no data transmission. | |
| Media3 / ExoPlayer | Local video decoding, frame trimming, timeline merging, and playback. | |
| Google ML Kit – Subject Segmentation | On-device machine learning for video frame subject separation. Runs 100% on-device with zero cloud processing. | |
| Coil | Open Source | Fast, local asynchronous image and video thumbnail generation. |
| Room Persistence Library | Structured local SQLite database abstraction for draft projects. |
ML Kit Privacy Notice: The ML Kit subject segmentation model runs entirely within your device's hardware. No video frames, images, biometric points, or user media are ever transmitted to Google or external cloud infrastructure. For details, consult the Google ML Kit Privacy Overview.
6. Children's Privacy
Clipr does not target or knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). Because Clipr does not collect any personal data from any user, it is fully safe for all audiences.
7. Data Security
Because Clipr processes and stores all content locally on your device, your data is protected by your device's operating system security sandbox. We recommend:
- Keeping your Android operating system and security patches up to date
- Securing your device with a PIN, password, or biometric lock
- Managing app permissions conscientiously in your device settings
8. Your Rights & Data Control
Because no personal data is stored on remote servers, you maintain full and immediate control over your data directly on your device:
- Delete Draft Projects: You can delete any saved draft project at any time within the App interface.
- Clear All App Data: You can wipe all local databases and cached drafts via Settings → Apps → Clipr → Storage → Clear Data.
- Uninstall the App: Removing Clipr deletes all local database tables and app-specific files.
- Revoke Permissions: You may adjust or revoke storage/media permissions at any time in device settings.
9. Sharing Your Content via the App
Clipr includes integration with Android's native system share sheet, enabling you to export and share your edited videos to third-party applications of your choice (such as messaging apps, social networks, or cloud drives). When you share content, data handling is governed by the respective third-party service's privacy policy.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect new features or regulatory requirements. Any updates will be published on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
